A kanji is a Chinese character used in the modern Japanese writing system. Unlike in hiragana and katakana, each kanji symbol has a meaning.

Most of the times, kanji symbols are used toghether with other two syllabic scripts called hiragana and katakana, and the arabic numerals.

Occasionally, the latin alphabet is used in japanese writing, specially for names and advertising.
